This project has not yet been started due to contract negotiations with the subrecipient. However, this project is 14% of the Nevada Department of Agriculture's total ARRA awards. As such, 14% of the 0.47 jobs created for the State coordinator is attributed to this project using these funds. The State Coordinator was hired on August 20, 2009. The Coordinator has secured or partially secured contracts with all subrecipients (except this agreement which is in progress), has been meeting with the State Controllers Office and the State Stimulus Czars office through meetings and conference calls and has been monitoring the budgets, reporting and progress for all stimulus projects awarded through the Nevada Department of Agriculture. |

Four undergraduate research assistant positions were created using the grant funds. The grant plan was to hire two undergraduate research assistants to full time positions. These positions were instead used to hire four undergraduate research assistants to part-time positions (from 25-50% FTE). The change in the % FTE was due to the fact that the students did not have full time available (due to taking classes, etc), and that the students were undergoing extensive training |

Because we have just been informed of this award, positions to be created have not yet been filled. Some existing positions working on the parent grant will be expanded to allow staff to also work on this supplemental grant. We will advertise for two postdoctoral positions to carry out the assessments and help out with other research activities during the less active assessment periods. If we are unable to recruit postdoctoral fellows in year one because of the timing of the award, we will hire four 20-hour-a-week graduate assistants to carry out assessments and other research activities within the scope of the project. Additionally, two existing staff, Elisa Hanna (assessment coordinator) and Dr. Chelsea MacLane will be retained through an increase in hours. The P.I.s, Drs. Hayes and Pistorello, will be paid a small amount in order to allow for the management and intellectual contribution dedicated to this supplemental. |
